Federal Debt and Trade Deficit are Intertwined

As the battle over the Washington’s budget deficit heats up again, it is timely to point out that even a partial solution to the trade deficit would be a huge source of government revenue without raising taxes.

Presently, the billions of dollars that leave our economy daily mean not only fewer jobs at USA factories and their suppliers, but also much less tax revenue collected at every level of government.

For example, if a factory that employs 10,000 Americans moves to Asia, we’re not just putting Americans out of work. We’re also losing all the taxes those employees would have paid, those the workers at their suppliers would have paid, and so on. That web of economic activity not only disappears, but so do the tax revenues that would have been collected!

Thus, the more that is Made in USA, the more tax revenue the government collects. Indeed, the correlation between the rise of the budget deficit (excluding Social Security transfers) and the trade deficit since 1970 is very tight. We not only vote USA when we purchase Made in USA, we add tax revenue to the government without raising taxes! Featured Item: Made in USA Pillows!

California Feather makes real pillows here in the USA out of real USA materials. Considering that we spend roughly eight hours a day on our pillows, using a pillow I can be sure is not dirty on the insides means a lot. In spite of the name, California Feather does not have feathers anymore. They just use clean, allergy-free polyester with cotton cloth around it. Washable, too!

New Items:

We added three vintage-style games that come in a tin box. Everything one needs to play is right there in the box, whether at home or on the go.

Doing Good for Our Nation Feels Good

I used to be an executive at a big USA tech company. I worked hard and made lots of money, but something was missing. I was empty. It was like Death’s cold hand was on my shoulder, and what could I show for my life?

Now, I work a lot harder and make a lot less money (for now), but have never been more motivated or happy! We have more than 640 USA suppliers and they all have many suppliers, so each order I see coming and going touches many Americans! They may not have any idea that our efforts might have helped get him or her get another shift or even a job, but it is real! Next, that person spends the money they earn and the USA cycle continues!

It is also liberating to give folks a real alternative while the big retail chains simply are not. It is a fact that they would put their own customers out of work if they thought they could make an extra dollar selling a product from abroad. Those companies harvesting the future for today’s bonuses are a disease, but we prove there is a USA option much more often than folks expect. Admittedly, I am enjoying shoving that in the faces of those big companies!

Best yet, I guess I am living an American life more worthwhile. I feel a kind of warm glow on my shoulder instead of Death’s cold hand, thanks to your good wishes and support! Small business can be a part of the solution. Millions of Americans are hungry for a real Made in USA choice. Let others talk; we will act.

Doing good for our nation really does feel good!

Featured Supplier – Maple Syrup Direct from the Kirsch family farm

Congratulations to the Kirsch family for adding a new baby boy! They are not only busy making the best maple syrup around, but are true Americans caring for a growing family!

The syrup is not cheap, but it takes a full 40 gallons of sap to make a gallon of syrup, so there is a lot of work involved! There is something special about stuff right from the farm. The first time I tasted this maple syrup it took me back to a long forgotten, happy childhood moment when my mother was making pancakes for us kids and still using real maple syrup. Yum!

One of our first suppliers, the very cool Green Toys, was also a brand new startup when we opened for business. My, have they grown! They make very cool toys out of recycled plastic and are in all sorts of toy stores now! I am so excited that we have been able to support them and help them in our modest way. They have some great new toys, including a fun ferry boat with cars! Please check them out and remember: Christmas is just around the corner!

Texas Jeans has expanded their product line with some neat new stuff! They are by far our most popular jeans maker. Firstly, in recognition that not all guys liked the Texas steer horns on the back pocket, they added versions of the Classic Original and Relaxed Fit styles that have lines straight across the pockets instead of horns.

Also, Texas Jeans added a men’s fire-resistant shirt and fire-resistant jeans for guys that work in conditions where they can use that added level of protection. Better safe than sorry!

Is USA Manufacturing Really So Expensive?

The media makes it seem like USA manufacturing must be much more expensive than making it in nations like China, due to wages and other costs. However, I have seen the real numbers when I oversaw Asia Finance for a USA tech company. The differences are not all that great.

Case in point: Motorola’s new Moto X smart phone is being assembled in the USA (using both foreign and domestic components). The added cost involved is just $4 overall.

Wages are just one piece of the puzzle. China also games the system by allowing poor worker safety and dangerous product quality, cheating on their currency and through a lack of pollution controls or enforcement. If we could get even a somewhat level playing field on a few of those factors, even that $4 difference could disappear quickly!

It is time to stop all this outsourcing of jobs! We need to start insourcing if we have any hope of renewing our economy.

It’s not just future generations that will suffer if we fail to act: 7 million Americans want to work, but have given up looking. It is ludicrous.

We can and do make a difference with each USA purchase. Think about that times the tens of thousands of folks who get this newsletter (and those you pass the word to), and you will begin to see the power that is in our hands.

Thank you for joining me to take a stand for our great nation and way of life!

As a parent, it has really troubled me that it has become hard to find USA canned tuna. There are just so many health, environmental and economic issues to consider on imported canned tuna that it just did not seem worthwhile. That is why I am so excited to introduce American Tuna! They are a family-owned company that pole catches albacore tuna off our Pacific Northwest. They hand cut and can it themselves! It is absolutely sustainably harvested, and it is tested for radiation and mercury. Finally, we can eat canned tuna again!

We have started to add a number of new products from Wendell August. They are one of our oldest and best suppliers. Their forged and hand-wrought giftware has been the finest in Pennsylvania since 1923. We just added a necklace, and you will be seeing many more items over the next few weeks. Here is a link to their special section: Link
